The 2026 New Jersey State Championship welcomed 10 teams to Toms River Yacht Club for this annual regatta. While the sailors were ready to go, the breeze did not quite cooperate. The day started with an hour delay after A Division sailed out, as we waited for the west wind to decide what it wanted to do. It ultimately began to fill enough from the west-northwest and racing began just before noon. The breeze would bounce between northwest and southwest for the rest of the day, never reaching a velocity above six knots and occasionally glassing off to zero. After the breeze once again died off around 1500 hours, racing was called for the day.
Christian Brothers Academy held a slight lead over Southern Regional after Saturday's five races. Sunday's report time is set for 0900 hours and racing will begin with A4.
Sunday saw very different conditions, as the west-northwest breeze was already in the mid-teens by the time sailing commenced around 1000 hours. Once again, we had to contend with major shifts on the river that oscillating nearly 100 degrees between the northwest and southwest. The wind was regularly around 15 knots with gusts reaching the low 20s at times. Nine more races were completed before the 1400 hours cut off time.
Christian Brothers Academy stayed the most consistent in the fleet, extending their lead late in the day to win the state title. Southern Regional was a strong second place. Donovan Catholic, Seton Hall Prep, and Chatham rounded out the top five. In A Division, CBA's Christopher Small, Christian Diaz and Joseph Borrachia narrowly beat Southern's Jude Ryon, Sergio Santos and Evan Colon. In B Division, CBA's Cole Buczkowski, Edward Solodkiy and Alex Pistolakis won by seven points over Southern's Gannon Botwinick, Ella Linkewich and Hudson Landgraf.
Thank you to the volunteers who made this regatta possible: Dr. Randall Nunn, Dave Magno, Jason Lutz, Brian Hull, and US Sailing Judges Harry Foote and Peter Chirlian. As always, thank you to TRYC for welcoming us to their facility and to the BBYRA for the continued partnership with the FJ fleet.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.
The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
