Downeast Championships

Summary

Saturday, May 16:

Killer day of racing in Smith Cove. The Southwesterly built throughout the day and delivered planing conditions for the last set. Volunteers Peter Clapp and Andrew Lindy ran 12 races total on a variety of courses: Windward/Leeward (W4's) in the beginning, Olympic courses (triangle W/L's) in the middle of the day, and Triangles once the breeze was fully built in the late afternoon. Racing was tight at the top of the A-division between Yarmouth, MDI, Oceanside, and Southern Maine. These skilled teams feasted on the breezy conditions and traded bullets all day long, with the Oceanside Team of Henri Weymouth and Henry Ackor winning the day with consistent top three finishes. The B division was dominated by Southern Maine's Jonah Reischmann, who nearly made a picket fence on the score sheet. The rest of the B fleet battled through the challenging conditions with Yarmouth and Islesboro rounding out the top three. Combined scores at the end of the day showed Southern Maine on top for the second year in a row, earning the right to ring the bell on the Jim Modisette Memorial Trophy. Yarmouth claimed the Maine High School Championship as the top Maine School and claimed the freshly refurbished MSSA State Championship Trophy. Thank you to everybody who made this event a success! It was a big team effort by MMA Waterfront staff, GSA Parents, and community volunteers.

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
