VISA Maury Fleet Regatta

Summary

Saturday, March 8:

Sailors arrived at the Lafayette River to find temperatures in the 50's and partly cloudy skies. Winds were initially west northwest, but quickly clocked northerly throughout the morning settling in north northeast around midday. Velocity was initially 8-10 mph with gusts in the low teens building with the directional change to sustained mid-teens with gusts in the high teens at 1, and declining thereafter. Seas were relatively flat.

For the season's first regatta, we had ten teams representing nine schools compete in combined division fleet racing. Seven races were accomplished on a W-4 course. The course was adjusted and reset several times during the morning to accommodate the shifting winds.

Hampton Roads Academy took first place with 43 points after having jockeyed with Christchurch School who finished closely behind in second with 47 points. Finishing in third place was Norfolk Academy with 97 points.

Sincere thanks goes to PRO Ethan Tutt for giving up his Saturday to run the regatta. Thanks also goes to the Maury and Hague parents who ran the event.

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
