We had a beautiful day on Mill Creek. The air temperature reached 80 degrees F and the water temp was up to 57 degrees. Skies were partly cloudy and seas were flat. After a wind delay, the first race started just at 10:09AM with 3.5 mph out of SW. The breeze clocked to due west and gradually filled in to high single digits with gusts slightly higher for the rest of the day.
Teams were seeded into 2 divisions with A division comprised of the teams who desired to compete at the MASSA level. The initial round was comprised of separate A and B division round robins interwoven. A completion round was then sailed followed by a final four for a total 34 races. The choice of format slowed potential racing, but was an insurance policy against the very low wind forecasts throughout the week prior.
First place was captured by Christchurch School with 9 wins and1 one loss which ironically was to Christchurch Team 2. Second place was awarded to Christchurch School Team 2 with 7 wins and 3 losses, who won the tie breaker based on total points scored when tied teams met. Norfolk Academy took third place with 7 wins and 3 losses.
Our thanks goes to the race committee, especially Leigh Chapman who served as PRO. Thanks also to the HRA team and parents for support on and off the water.
