VISA Girls Championship

Summary

Sunday, April 13:

Mill Creek welcomed 18 teams representing 8 schools with partly cloudy skies and air temperatures in the high 50's. Seas were initially aggressive with 1 foot waves in quick succession. Winds started in the in the high teens out of the west with 90 degree oscillations, but after a few races the wind just went wacky rapidly rotating 270 degrees and back twice, waxing and waning in intensity from 0 to 10 mph with wild gusts. Finally it rotated and settled in to ESE at 7 mph with gusts higher for the last couple races in choppy seas.

With numerous course adjustments, a few abandoned races, general and individual recalls, sailors were able to compete in 7 W-4 races with a short mid-regatta break on shore.

Christchurch School Team 5 took first place with , 23 points. In second place, Hampton Roads Academy Team 1 won the tie-breaker with 25 points. Christchurch School Team 1 took third place with 25 points and a tiebreaker loss. Norfolk Collegiate Team one finished in fourth place with 31 points and and impressive 4 bullets.

Great thanks goes to Mark Sarrett for serving as PRO in challenging wind conditions, an to Keith Goodwin for organizing the event and moving marks (repeatedly).

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
