NJISA 2025 BBYRA Spring Invitational

Summary

Saturday, March 29:

The 2025 NJISA BBYRA Spring Invitational Regatta saw 15 teams from 10 schools contend for the historic Rooster Flag trophy, as is tradition in BBYRA races for over 100 years. The sailors certainly had their work cut out for them, as a west-southwest wind pumped in for most of the day. The breeze peaked midday over 20 knots, causing a brief postponement of racing. Once the breeze let down, the sailors returned to the water to finish the day. Ultimately, 12 LA2 races were completed by 1700 hours.

There was back and forth racing between the top three teams for the duration of the series. With a consistent last two sets, Christian Brothers Academy's first team pulled out the victory by four points over the CBA second team. Southern Regional was the third place team on a lost tiebreaker with the CBA second team.

In A Division, Southern's Turner Ryon, Belle Placa and Gannon Botwinick finished first, two points ahead of Seton Hall's Ryan D'Orsi and Dean Romain. In B Division, CBA 1's Christopher Small and Alton DeOliveria won by four points over CBA 2's Patrick Kennedy and Jack Slavin.

Thank you to Dave Magno for serving as PRO, Dr. Randall Nunn and Jody Lutz for running the mark boats, and Brian Dellett, Kyle Lombardino, and Carter Henkel for assisting on the water. Thank you to TRYC and the BBYRA for their continued support of high school sailing.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
