MASSA Spring Invitational

Summary

Saturday, May 10:

Teams arrived at Hodson Boathouse just as high tide was starting to turn. A light breeze from the northwest built over the race course from the docks, moving across the river. Sailors battled challenging conditions as the breeze shifted and the ebb tide ripped boats across the course. RC and Mark Boat worked hard to keep races moving, running W4, W5, and W6 races as conditions required. RC and the sailors powered through 10 races in each division, with the plan to complete racing tomorrow morning if the wind allowed. 9 protests and one request for redress were heard, resulting in 5 DSQs and a denied redress.

Sunday, May 11:

Flat water greeted the sailors this morning. A postponement ashore was called and sailors waited for the wind to fill. Unfortunately the wind never arrived with enough gusto to run races. Sailors enjoyed kayaks, paddleboards, and a wiffleball game while waiting.

With consensus of RC and Regatta Chair, racing was called due to the wind, actual and forecast, at 1200. Congratulations to 3rd place: Ridge, 2nd place: Leonardtown High, and 1st place: Christchurch.

Thank you to all teams, sailors, and parents who attended. Thank you to our RC, Luke and Susan Shingledecker, and our mark boat, John Wyman and his daughter Abby, for making sure racing ran smoothly. Thank you to Garth Wells for being Regatta Chair. Thank you to all coaches who sat in the numerous protest hearings. Thank you to Washington College and Head Coach, Evan Clayton, for hosting the regatta.

Safe drive home to all, and Happy Mother's day!

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
