NESSA Herreshoff Qualifier - North Kingstown

Summary

Sunday, May 11:

What a great day! Sun was out and breeze started out from the WNW @ 8-10 knots. By the time the teams hit the water @1000 it had shifted to the predicted NW direction at 12-15 knots with some gusts rolling in at 20 knots. The race committee was run by Doug Nannig and Dave McCann with Dean Balcirak III and Jacob Lentz as markset. The race committee did a great job keeping the races going on a very shifty, breezy day by finding the middle of the oscillations and going with it! The committee also did their best to keep the course in a location to minimize blocking the channel at the request of the harbor master. Huge thank you to Wickford Yacht Club for letting us take over the club for the day and our NESSA rep Chris Crane for overseeing the event!

I also wanted to give a shout out to all the moms at the event especially Emilie Tamboe, and Jen McCann for volunteering to support the event, and Trish Sellon for running tech score, big team effort.

6 races were sailed in both A and B division with St Georges running away with it! The other qualifying teams for the Herreshoff final at SailMaine are Branstable HS, Portsmouth Abbey, and North Kingstown HS. I was impressed with the sportsmanship from all the teams on the water especially Moses Brown (not sure which division) as they alerted a team that was in front of them that on a previous leg they hit bottom in the area they were headed. The team that was headed for shallow water promptly tacked and kept sailing thanks to the alert from Moses Brown sailors! Well done ladies.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
