Girls Catholic Schools Regatta

On Friday evening sailing teams from eleven Catholic schools from coast to coast gathered for a crawfish boil and team building games on the campus of Ursuline Academy in New Orleans. On Saturday morning, all competitors met at Community Sailing New Orleans for racing. Racing began at 10:15. Four races were sailed with a Northeast wind at about 10mph before having a quick lunch break. After lunch, the wind shifted to the North and three more races were sailed before the wind all but died in the 7th race of the day.

After racing, the teams met for jambalaya and to watch the Krewe of MadHatters Mardi Gras parade. All the sailors were successful in collecting beads and a variety of other throws.

The weather for the day called for temperatures in the low 50s with a steady rain and a brisk wind. All races were cancelled; however the teams did participate in a Catholic Mass at New Orleans Yacht Club. After Mass, awards were given to the top three teams. Congratulations to the Southern California teams from Mater Dei and St. Joseph High School for sweeping the podium. Several teams then gathered at Cafe du Monde in the French Quarter to enjoy beignets and to say their goodbyes after a long but enjoyable weekend.
