Although forecasts called for a steady west wind of 10 - 13, the Sharon Invitational became a tricky, shifty, challenging "lakey" day. Races were slow to get going as the RC was chasing the wind from NW to WSW and points in between in wind of 2 - 6. By noon an average westerly direction could be established and course changes were "only" 10 degrees one way or the other for the rest of the day. Shifts of up to 30 degrees each way rewarded sailors who got it right and frustrated those who got it wrong. Throughout the afternoon wind speed was down to 5 and up to 15 as wind lines rolled through.
The rapidly shifting conditions made consistency difficult but created opportunity for many different teams have a successful day. Seven teams won one or more of the twelve races. The top two teams in the A Division were Landmark in first and Winchester in second. The B Division winner, Wellesley, gave the most consistent performance of the day, and Sharon finished second in B. The overall regatta winners were Wellesley in first, Duxbury Second, Sharon third, and Landmark fourth.
