VISA Cox JV Fleet Race Regatta

Summary

Saturday, October 25:

Interwoven JV and varsity regattas on Mill Creek began on this beautiful fall day with committee member John Bouma demonstrating that the CO2 cartridge in his life jacket actually did function. Air temps were in the 50's. Shifty and puffy initially northerly winds were varied from 5-10mph with gusts slightly higher, clocking to to SSW by the time racing ended at 3. Seas were flat.

Racing at Youth Sailing Virginia included 15 single division JV teams representing 7 schools and 18 single division varsity teams representing 12 schools. JV initially sailed 2 races, then varsity rotated into the boats for 2 races. JV sailed an additional 3 races before their no start after time of 1:00 for a total of 5 races. Varsity jumped back into the boats for an additional 6 races (total 8) before their no start after tome of 3:00PM.

On the varsity course, Norfolk Academy Team 1 took first place with 13 points, followed closely by Norfolk Collegiate Team 2 with 16 points. Third place was taken by Christchurch Team 1 with 44 points.

In the JV races, Norfolk Academy Team 3 took first with 10 points. Catholic finished second with 15 points, and Norfolk Collegiate finished third with 21 points.

Greatest thanks goes to the Cox and Catholic teams for running smooth, clean races for both varsity and JV, especially PRO Joe Bosquet.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
