NJISA 2025 Fall Fleet Championship

Summary

Saturday, October 4:

The 2025 NJISA Fall Fleet Championship welcomed 12 teams looking to qualify for the MASSA District regattas later in October. Saturday featured near 80-degree temperatures and sunny skies. A light west wind survived for one set, but died off as race B2 was finishing. After a near hour delay, sailors returned to the water in a southeast seabreeze. Six more W4 races were completed in 5-8 knots before the regatta was paused after race A6.

Christian Brothers Academy ended day one with a nine-point lead. Southern Regional was a solid second place, followed by Donovan Catholic and Toms River South.

Racing is set to resume with 5B on Sunday.

Sunday, October 5:

Sunday's breeze turned out to be more difficult than Saturday's conditions. An extremely light west wind died off before sailors could launch the boats, calling for an extensive postponement. The warm temperatures allowed for hope of a seabreeze, which finally began to develop around 1130. The southeast wind reached TRYC by noon, allowing races 5B and 6B to be completed. Ultimately, the wind did not hold much longer and racing was called for the day.

Christian Brothers Academy led from start to finish, earning a seven-point fall title victory. Southern Regional sailed a strong regatta in second place. Donovan Catholic was firmly third, while Ridge used a good last B set to jump into fourth place. These four teams have qualified for the MASSA Fall Fleet Championship later in October at TRYC. Teams in fifth through eighth have qualified for the MASSA Fall Invitational in Buffalo on the same weekend.

CBA's Christopher Small and Christian Diaz won A Division, with Southern's Jude Ryon, Sergio Santos and Mia Linkewich in second place. CBA's Cole Buczkowski and Christopher Reed topped B Division by three points over Southern's Gannon Botwinick and Ella Linkewich.

One protest was heard from Saturday's racing, resulting in a DSQ.

Thanks to Dr. Randall Nunn for running the races, Jody Lutz for setting the course, and Harry Foote and Pris Gettis for serving as US Sailing judges. As always, thank you to TRYC and the BBYRA for supporting high school sailing.
