The weather turned out to be just beautiful with temps in the mid-60's and winds initially out of the SW at 6-7mph. The wind got squirrely around 11 with less than ideal conditions, clocked 180 degrees, and then dropped forcing a number of course changes and a delay on the water until the wind filled in just after noon. Initially light around 5mph westerly, the wind clocked to SW again, settling for a bit at WSW, and back to SW while building throughout the afternoon to 15mph. Gusts were slightly higher.
For this invitational event, 36 teams were seeded using RP data from previous season regattas into 2 approximately evenly weighted divisions for the qualifying races. The divisions were scored as separate events. They rotated through 18 boats with the green div. completing a set of 2 races followed by the red division completing a set, then green again, etc. Four races were completed in each division and the teams were then ranked and seeded in silver and gold divisions for the final championship races with the top 9 teams in each of green and red seeded into gold division and the bottom 9 teams in each of green and red seeded into silver division. The teams completed 2 races in each of the silver and gold divisions before racing was concluded as the sun was setting. The top 3 teams in gold division will place in first through third place for the entire event.
At the end of the Saturday, Severn Team 2 was in first place in gold with 3 points. Antilles Team 2 sat in second with 5 points, and Rye Team 1 was in third with 8 points. In the silver competition, Falmouth Maine Yachtsman ended the day breaking the tie for first with 5 points, followed by Tabor White in second, also with 5 points. Summit took third with 6 points.
We look forward to more racing tomorrow in silver and gold divisions with possibly sporty conditions.
