MASSA Cressy Qualifier ILCA 7 Open

Summary

Saturday, September 13:

High School ILCA sailors arrived at Bellport Bay Yacht Club to compete in the MASSA Cressy Qualifier to determine which sailors will advance to the Cressy National Singlehanded Championship to be held in Norfolk, VA the first weekend in November. Two sailors from each class: ILCA 6 Boys, ILCA 6 Girls and ILCA 7 Open will advance to the Nationals.

Saturday provided northeasterly breeze in the 15 knot range which backed down to around 10 knots as the breeze clocked to the right. Sunday started out with very little breeze but it did fill in with an E to ENE wind with less velocity than Saturday.

Twelve races were completed theILCA 6 Boys division over the weekend. Elliot Lipp and Aaron Griffith finished first and second respectfully and will both head to the Nationals representing the Christchurch School.

The ILCA 6 Girls fleet also competed a total of twelve races with Skye Lily Charles from Stuyvesant High School taking first place honors just four point ahead of Christchurch School's Sarah More. They will represent MASAS and their schools a the Cressy Nationals.

The ILCA 7 Open class had twelve races over the weekend with Sam de los Reyes of the Christchurch School captured first place with a string of bullets for a total score of 12 points. Saints Peter & Pauls High School's Hartley Cooper finished second. These two boys will head to Norfolk for the Nationals the first weekend of November.

Sunday, September 14:

Many thanks to Bellport Bay Yacht Club and their volunteers for hosting the regatta, Johnny Everett for his behind the scenes administrative duties and special thanks to P.R.O Tom Collin and his committee for giving the sailors a great weekend of racing.
