Teams from across the state gathered at the Cornwell Sailing Center for the Michigan High School Laser State Championships, hosted by Traverse Area Community Sailing. Racing commenced promptly at 1000 in a building northerly breeze, ranging from 7-15 knots. Three races were successfully completed before significant right shifts necessitated a course reset. Following the reset, two additional races were finished before lunch as the wind settled back to the north, consistently blowing in the 6-9 knot range. After a brief lunch, the fleet relaunched around 2:20 PM to complete three more races in light, variable northerly winds. A total of eight races were completed on Saturday, thanks to the dedicated efforts of our race committee for a fantastic day on the water.
Teams returned to Boardman Lake for the second day of the Michigan High School Laser State Championships. The morning began with glassy, foggy conditions, with the fog gradually burning off around 11:00 AM. The fleet launched, and an attempt was made to start a race for the full rigs, but it was ultimately abandoned as the breeze completely died. Around 1200, a stable southeasterly breeze filled in, allowing for the completion of four races in building conditions that ranged from 6-15 knots, with gusts measured as high as 21 knots. Racing concluded around 1345 PM. A total of 12 races were completed for the regatta. Two protests were heard, resulting in one DSQ.
