MDISA SCC Tier 1 Fleet Race

Summary

Saturday, September 14:

SCC hosted a MDSA varsity regatta on the St. Mary’s River at Chancellor’s Point. High scattered clouds, 6 - 10 knots of wind from the ENE running right down the river all day. The seas were one foot or less with the tide flooding to near high mark by race time. Course was a standard W4 windward/leeward with gate marks.

Fleet racing with 14 schools started just after 10:00. We completed 6 races for each division (A and B). Wind direction and speed held steady through 2:00. Races were all around 20 minutes - leaders finished in about 15 minutes. Wind speed dropped after 2:00 so the weather mark was moved twice to shorten the course ~20 yards for A5/6 and again for B5/6 to keep race times manageable. Rotations were easy with the boats sailing a beam reach to the swap area and back out for the next set of 2 races.

Many thanks to Nancy Clay for the RC boat and to the volunteers on RC and in the safety/mark boats who kept an eye on the sailors, set a great course, and especially with the two capsize situations. Racing was finished by 3:45 and all marks were pulled as boats returned to the beach to haul out.

Thanks to the host of shore volunteers provided fresh snacks for the sailors, monitored TechScore, and directed seamless boat rotations. We hope everybody enjoyed a great day of sailing. I know that Tome and Annapolis did because coaches and sailors passed along some very kind words. Thank you!

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
